Back Pain and Unable to Take Pain Meds

Back Pain and Unable to Take Pain Meds

I never had any back pain before. That is, until I tried to put all my force into lifting a heavy object. I thought I could do it. I pulled up using my legs. I was leaning against the object with my palms turned backward getting a grip on the weight. It was hundreds of pounds, and I just needed to move it a little. When I put my back into it, pun intended, I felt something pop about midway up my back. It took months before I felt any better. I still visit a West Phoenix chiropractor when I get flareups.

Have you ever heard someone talk about an old sports or work injury? I never thought much about it until I got hurt. I was not playing sports or working at my job. I was just lifting a heavy object outdoors in my driveway that I should have had about five other people help me with. I am a do-it-yourself kind of guy. Another flaw is to be there to help others but not ask for help when I need it. Now I am paying the price of doing permanent damage to some muscles in my back. Things heal up when we mess them up, but they never feel quite the same.

I know what back pain feels like now. What is worse is that any type of pain medication makes me very sick at the stomach. I could not take anything and not be sick, but when the pain got bad I took prescription ibuprofen. I just put up with the stomachache to get some relief from the back pain. My doctor offered me something stronger, but I had no interest in feeling even sicker. The only thing that helps me when it flares up is chiropractic. My wife has them on speed dial for when I come home hurting. She can tell by the look on my face.
